RMA’s multicurve Level III body armor plate (model #1062 – #1063 Gen2) was specifically designed with the US Navy and Marine Corps in mind. Special operations engineered to be ultra lightweight and also positively buoyant. Plus, this Level III armor plate will defeat multiple 7.62×51 M80 NATO as well as 5.56 / .223 munitions (including the M193) and handgun munitions.

RMA’s Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Level III body armor plate is built to exceed the standards set forth by the National Institute of Justice’s NIJ 0101.07 RF1 for a stand-alone plate. Anyone who depends on superior protection in the most dangerous situations can depend on the strength and also quality of this Level III stand-alone rifle plate. If you’re someone who wears body armor for extended periods on the job–particularly law enforcement– then these lightweight armor plates are for you. Additionally, the buoyant construction means these plates float in water. Thus, they’re ideal for any maritime operations. Plus, their lightweight construction allows maximum protection with minimal weight during operations over rough terrain.

How does UHMWPE compare to steel? Steel fails many rounds assumed to also be covered by the Level III standard, including 5.56 M193–the most common rifle round in the United States. UHMWPE is a flexible material, allowing it to absorb the energy of M193 without allowing it to pass through, unlike steel. The weight difference between steel and UHMWPE is also dramatic. Many steel plates also weigh upwards of 8 pounds–the same weight as our 1155 Level IV plate. That’s dead weight without also the superior protection of a Level 4 plate. But the benefits don’t end there. While steel plates cause a round to fragment, UHMWPE entirely absorbs the round without sending fragments ricocheting into the wearer or their compatriots.
